The concept of Yin and Yang is the generalization of the two opposite aspects in some related objects and phenomena in the natural world,. it not only represent the two opposite objects, but also the two opposite aspect existing within the interior of the same object. Such as winter and summer, day and night heat and cold, etc...due to the motion and change of the two aspects of Yin and Yang, the natural world is formed and development and change of the world are promoted.
In TCM the basic viewpoints of Yin and Yang: the attribution of Yin and Yang, the divisibility of Yin and Yang, the interdependence and interrestraint of Yin and Yang, the mutual transformation of Yin and Yang, are widely used to explain the tissues, structure, physiological activities, pathological changes of the human body and to explain the prognosis of diseases as well as the pattern identification and treatment.
The theory of the five elements holds all the phenomena in the universe are composed by the movement and mutation of the five objects: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. In TCM the attributes of those five objects are deduced abstractly by the assistance of the interpromoting and interrestraning relationship existing among these five kinds of objects, to explain the physiology and pathology of the human body as well as their relationship to the outside environment, so as to guide the diagnosis and treatment.
True understanding of these layers in a person can reveal the etiology of disease and lead to a significant and deep change, freeing the person from suffering. Dr. Wen utilizes her extensive knowledge of concepts of Yin, Yang and the Five Elements to powerfully diagnose and treat disorders.
